My team was tasked with bringing a neglected 1950s clubhouse new life as an event venue, retreat and spa. I worked closely with RRM Landscape Architects, Structural Engineers and Architects to develop a consistent look and feel throughout all disciplines. Utilizing the existing footprint, maintaining the original design and incorporating local materials, a respite from the modern world has reemerged. This project is currently being reviewed by the county for permits.

Nestled on California’s Central Coast, the design team was inspired to create a space where guests will to feel connected to the local environment. After studying the intimate relationship between land and sea, every inch of the project is informed by the area’s unique palette. The design has been approved by Hilton’s Curio Design Team and is currently going through code review with the state of California.

In the early stages of design, the team has been inspired by Julia Morgan’s Asilomar and created warm and inviting public areas.
“Perched on the edge of the Pacific, nestled among the rugged rocks and gnarled pines glows the charming Pacific Grove, a place reminiscent of a warm embrace from a favorite relative. A piney paradise overlooked by the whirlwind of the modern world.
Relax into the gentle pace at the Hotel Julia.”

The RRM design team was tasked with creating a modern home for a growing family on a challenging site. The clients were continually drawn to board form concrete, exposed beams and dark woods. We kept the materials to the same three core materials throughout and played up deceptively simple design details. A leather clad low wall will act as a headboard and dividing wall between the master bedroom and master lounge. This project is currently under review for construction permits.
